Behavioral Biomechanics Laboratory Melissa Gross Ph.D. Research in our lab aims to understand how human movement patterns are changed in characteristic ways when different emotions are expressed in healthy individuals and in individuals with mood disorders. |
Human Neuromechanics Laboratory Daniel Ferris Ph.D. Our research focuses on how the nervous and musculoskeletal systems interact to produce coordinated locomotion. We use techniques from biomechanics, neuroscience, and robotics to study how humans walk and run in health and disability. Specific projects focus on robotic exoskeletons, powered prostheses, and mobile brain imaging. |
Human Performance Innovation Laboratory Research conducted within the HPIL (formerly the Injury Biomechanics Laboratory) focuses on assisting individuals at all levels of athletic competition and recreation, and the physically active in general, achieve, sustain and rehabilitate to peak performance. An interdisciplinary approach to human performance allows the HPIL to address a wide range of evaluation and research questions through innovative means, and facilitates the rapid dissemination and application of results into effective strategies for performance-enhancement, training, and injury prevention and rehabilitation. |
Musculoskeletal Tissue Emulation Laboratory Mark Palmer M.D., Ph.D. Current research In the MTEL focuses on developing a multilevel computational model of human skeletal muscle to elucidate the genesis and propagation of injury. |
Neuromuscular Research Laboratory Riann Palmieri-Smith Ph.D., A.T.C. Our research focuses on the functional limitations and biomechanical adaptations that occur as a result of joint injury and disease. |
Neurotrauma Research Laboratory Steven Broglio Ph.D., A.T.C. Sport-related concussion assessment using neurocognitive evaluations, self-report symptoms, and postural control. His specific area of interest is investigating the direction and magnitude of impact and the clinical outcomes following concussion. |

Exercise Endocrinology Laboratory Katarina Borer Ph.D. The Exercise Endocrinology Laboratory research centers on the interactions of exercise and nutrition, and on the effects of exercise on energy regulation and hormone secretion in humans. |
Muscle Biology Laboratory Greg Cartee Ph.D. Work in the Muscle Biology Laboratory focuses on skeletal muscle metabolism, especially in the modulation of glucose transport by exercise and calorie restriction, and how these interventions are influenced by advancing age. |
Substrate Metabolism Laboratory Jeff Horowitz Ph.D. This laboratory studies the regulation of fat, carbohydrate, and protein metabolism in humans, with particular interest in how exercise and diet affect energy metabolism. |
Vascular Biology Laboratory Peter Bodary Ph.D. The research in the Vascular Biology Laboratory is focused on understanding the interaction of lifestyle and adiposity on vascular health and disease. |

Center on Physical Activity and Health in Pediatric Disabilities Dale Ulrich Ph.D. We study cognitive and social development in children with disabilities. Our mission is to have a positive impact on the whole child, recognizing that the child's physical functioning influences many other areas of their life, including their families. |
Developmental Neuromotor Control Laboratory Beverly Ulrich Ph.D. The clinical populations we study have been Down syndrome and myelomeningocele. We work largely with pediatric populations, but our developmental approach leads us to design studies involving the age spectrum -- from infancy, through preadolescents, and the elderly. We focus heavily on gait patterns. |
Human Sensorimotor Laboratory Sean Meehan Ph.D. Our research focuses on the neurophysiology of sensorimotor control and how the brain changes when we learn new skills. |
Motor Control Laboratory Susan Brown Ph.D. In the Motor Control Lab, we seek to advance our understanding of mechanisms underlying sensorimotor control of human movement, as well as provide the basis for rehabilitative interventions. |
Neuromotor Behavior Laboratory Rachael Seidler Ph.D. NBL research focuses on motor control and skill learning. We study the neural and behavioral processes underlying skill acquisition. |
