Sport Management faculty member Ketra Armstrong speaks with NPR about the pay female basketball players receive in the WNBA.
Ketra Armstrong, professor of Sport Management, was quoted in the NPR story “After Brittney Griner's release, where does the pay gap in women's sports stand?” She commented on how there needs to be a cultural shift for progress to be made on the question of paying athletes in the WNBA.
“So we need strategic marketing. We need strategic business plans, comprehensive business plans that will grow the market, that will grow their fan base, that will engage them with corporate partners that would allow them to get extra moneys. All of these things is what the NBA has been doing for years, and we need to have the same type of intentionality for the WNBA,” said Armstrong.
