Q: What's one thing about your work that might surprise people or that people might not know much about?
A: My colleagues may know about my past experience at Google and my involvement as a co-owner in AFC Ann Arbor (a local, semi-professional men's and women's soccer club) but might not have heard about my work over the past 18 months with Ukrainian refugees in Poland. It's definitely been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.
Q: Out of everything you're working on right now, what are you most excited about?
A: I'm really excited about the new course I'm developing on the business of sports betting. I'm looking forward to work with our students to help them understand the nuances, opportunities — as well as dangers — of that rapidly evolving, dynamic and fast-growing segment of the industry.
Q: What's the most meaningful or satisfying aspect of your work?
A: I LOVE teaching, and interacting with our students. Having spent lots of time recruiting, interviewing, hiring and mentoring young professionals early in their career, I believe I have unique insights to help our students as they transition into their chosen career paths. It's already been extremely rewarding getting to know our students, and I definitely draw a lot of energy from those interactions.
Q: Which states and/or countries have you lived in? Which was your favorite, and why?
A: Until setting in Ann Arbor some 16 years ago, I've led a bit of a nomad life, having lived and worked in Michigan, Chicago, New York, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, Poland, the UK/Ireland, and many CEE countries. I loved my relatively short stint in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest — there is something really unique about that city that continues to draw me back.
Q: Who are the special people in your life?
A: My kids, Jakob (almost 21) and Noah (17), and my partner, Erika. Being a father and seeing my babies grow up has been the most rewarding experience in my life. We love traveling and attending sporting events together!
