A prospective first-year student is someone who has not attended any institution of higher education following high school.

DYK: Our school offers student ambassadors who are ready to answer questions you might have. They have different interests and majors, so you can see the variety of activities available to you as a U-M student.

ADMISSIONS CRITERIA

First-year applicants are strongly advised to have completed the following:

• Four years of English
• Three years of mathematics
• Three years of science
• Three years of history and social sciences
• Two years of foreign language

While there are no minimum requirements for admission, students are evaluated by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in the context of their high school environment. Students are expected to challenge themselves with what their high school offers and have competitive coursework, grades, and standardized test scores.

APPLICATION

All students are required to submit the following items prior to the deadline date:

• Completed Common Application with $75 application fee* payment (please note the application includes specific University of Michigan questions)
• Official high school transcript (additional requirements by country)
• School Report (Common App)**
• One teacher evaluation (academic teacher)
• TOEFL, IELTS, MET, or Duolingo, etc. scores (for non-native speakers of English)
• Official college transcripts (for high school students dual enrolled in a college or university additional requirements by country)

Effective for the 2025 application cycle, beginning with the application for the winter 2025 term (if applicable), U-M will be test-optional. Prospective students have the choice to submit standardized test scores (ACT/SAT), if they desire, as part of their application. Other test scores (AP, IB, PSAT), which applicants may have available, will no longer be considered in their place. The university will review the policy on an ongoing basis. If you would like to submit your SAT or ACT score and you have not yet had your scores reported, you can have them sent to us using these links:

*You can apply for a fee waiver in the application if you meet certain criteria. We do not send a notification of approval or denial of the fee waiver request. If the waiver is denied, you will receive a $75 bill from us. International students are not eligible for fee waivers.

**The School Report must be submitted with an official high school transcript and received in our office by the deadline. For this reason, we strongly encourage counselors to submit the report and transcript electronically.

Do not submit additional documents unless specifically requested, as this may delay your decision.
 

Deadlines

This year U-M School of Kinesiology will accept applications for FALL semester only. The deadlines are:

• Fall, Early Action: November 1
• Fall, Regular Action: February 1
• First-year applicants can apply for Fall Term only

SPORT MANAGEMENT SECONDARY APPLICATION

Sport Management requires a secondary admission application, due:

• For Fall term start: January 15, 11:59pm
• For Winter term start: September 15, 11:59pm
