About
Jan Boehmer is an assistant professor of Sport Management at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, where he is affiliated with the Center for Sport Marketing Research (CSMAR). His research investigates the social and economic impact of (mediated) sport, with a focus on marketing and data analytics. Prior to his time at U-M, Dr. Boehmer spent six years in Europe working for global clients in the marketing industry. Previously, he also held positions at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Miami.
Dr. Boehmer's research was published in peer-reviewed journals including European Sport Management Quarterly, Communication & Sport, and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly. He frequently presents at professional and academic conferences. Dr. Boehmer has also received multiple awards, including the WPP Atticus Award for his work on the challenges of data-use in professional marketing, the ICA Early Career Research Award in Sport Communication, and the AEJMC Emerging Scholar Award.
Dr. Boehmer earned his PhD in Media & Information Studies from Michigan State University, his MBA from Old Dominion University, and his BA in Journalism from the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt, Germany.
